RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam (NK Tribute Pt.2)

*Life rant...*

Christmas is now over, New Year is fast approaching, and unfortunately for me I haven' t been updating that much. Still, a couple of promises from me: I will assure you guys that I shall finish the year-end essay before the year ends, and probably before returning to school, I may release another review after this, concerning one of the two new additions to the CelPrev collection.

Until then... ladies... XD

A message from some Gunpla... '^^

We may remain stuck on various poses for a long while...

We may experience the annoying agony of sagging joints...

...or unexpected design flaws leading to limited movement...

... or maybe misproporions on our bodies, making us of lesser importance...

But one thing’s certain on this special day...

We celebrate like there's no tomorrow... for IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!

Seasons greetings, guys... ^^

Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy 2010: Good Yuletide Awesomesauce...

[[Incoming CelPrev Official Transmission]]

Just heard of this song by comedians Jack Black and Jason Segel on CollegeHumor, and I was quite amazed as how it was executed properly, without ending up as another Christmas Carol flop.

Originally, the song was made by music legends David Bowie and Bing Crosby, with the former doing the counterpoint melody. I tried to compare both vids, and to my shock they were essentially identical, save for a few Trans-Siberian Orchestra-Style rock parts.

Quite a good way to be jolly, listening to this bit... ^^

Just Check the vids on these links:

HG 1/144 Gaplant TR-5 [Hrairoo] Review

Photo from 1999.co.jp
*Life Rant...*

Some good news and bad news bits...

Bad news first: I'm having the case of the mental block again, as the Pre-Christmas, Year-End Essay that I've been trying to finish is still not effin' finished. T_T I promise that I will finish it before the holidays, along with the upcoming RG RX-78 Review (Due this Christmas, yay!)

Now for the good news: I'm already close to deciding on which HG Gunpla will be next on my list, but I will try my best to revive Masurao maybe by next year. On top of that, as I am typing this review, I currently have access to my father's 64GB Apple iPad for the weekend; look forward to a quick review of this dingy later on... ^^

P.S. The following photos for this review were shot using a Canon EOS 550D with an EF-S 18-135mm lens. (both were purchased and currently owned by my dad... just had to test the bad boy for myself... '^^) Take note this is the VERY first time I properly used a DSLR, so bear with me... '^^

CelPrev Pre-Christmas Gunpla Updates...

The Holidays are fast-approaching; as we speak, it is officially 30 days before Christmas, 31 before mah Birthday. (Whopeee!!!). In line, I wish to ask you guys as to which Gunpla would I next purchase?

Before that, I'll confess on a couple of low notes here: I plan on purchasing a second RG RX-78 Gundam to commence the necessary repairs; and as of this moment, my Masurao is on the verge of being 'phased out' from the lineup (Sorry, Mr. Bushido, hope you'll forgive me for this...) as it sustained critical damage on its waist pegs while trying to address the flimsy PC joints with Super Glue (orz... T_T)

As a result, the Masu Review will be put on indefinite hold until further notice, and I will be focusing instead on reviewing the TR-5 Hrairoo, and the RG Gundam, once I get the latter fixed.

Now on to the task at hand: I was choosing between the following, because of their pricing, the articulation, and the integrity of the parts (Looks are a bonus); and also because I'll be purchasing it alongside the 2nd RG Gundam...

*NOTE: the following photos are courtesy of Dalong.net for purposes of this post. Click on the name of the model for his review...

GNW-20000 Arche Gundam - basically, I planned on getting this one to start on a proposed "GN Bloodknife" custom, using whatever parts remained from the TR-5 Hrairoo, complete with Black-on-red color scheme. However, I still feel quite skeptic about its articulation, particularly in the waist area.

MS-14S Gelgoog Commander Type (Char Aznable Custom) - this suit is basically to give company to the RG RX-78,  but I fear that it might take up too much space...

GN-007GNHW/M Arios Gundam GNHW/M - this one though, is to keep my Seravee GNHW/B company. The problem: I'll be tempted then to get GN Archer, and I'll be running out of more space.

Here are the other considerations as inspired by fellow Gunpla enthusiasts on the Internet:

RGZ-95C ReZel Commander Type (c/o BD77)

MSN-06S Sinanju (c/o Z and BD77)

GNT-0000 00 Qan[T] (c/o Hobby-no-Toriko)

FA-78-3 Full Armor Gundam 7th (c/o Chessboard Attic)

GN-000 0 Gundam ACD (c/o CD/Rndm and Baby TheEnd)

If you guys still have other suggestions, please post them below. Note that I am looking for a HG that would cost me Php 1200 at the most, as I am reserving a separate Php 1600 for the RG...

Until then you guys... ^^

107 for 107: The CelPrev Tribute to the "Home of Nu Rock"

(Posted previously on my Facebook Page last November 6, 2010)

-=-=-=-=-Incoming CelPrev Official Transmission...-=-=-=-=-=-=-

With just more or less 24 Hours before the revered "Home of Nu Rock" NU 107.5 finally gets the tug in its plug, I figured I put my Pre-Christmas Rant Frenzy on hold in order to compile 100 songs out of the 160 tracks I have in my Cellular Phone-slash-Music Player. But in order to make it a real 107 Tribute, I wish to introduce along my own version of the station's "Stairway to Seven" - the final 7 songs which made a true mark not just to me but also throughout the Rock culture, here in the Philippines and around the World.

The final days of DWNU 107.5 (NU 107)

First it was the Ngee Khiong as the primary source of Gunpla and figure model news, now this... What has the world gotten itself into?

Best as we face the inevitable: with the fall of the premiere home of Nu Rock (and possibly the home of genuine Philippine Rock Music), it's quite the end for most of us...

Rest in Peace, Nu 107; your memory shall live on...

Filler post: end-year post and further reviews...

Before I go further with the backlog of reviews, I figured I start up another essay. Currently I've begun with the first few issues, and I wish to add more of the following:

- reports on alleged plagiarism against a Supreme Court Justice;
- trends regarding the Christmas craze;
- a little bit of personal metanoia re: Christmas Jingles
- personal takes on media hype in general; and
- maybe a wee bit of information on dream Gunpla builds... ^^;

I'll try posting the whole thing within the next few days. The backlog of reviews may have to be pushed back a bit more. Until the next post then... ^^

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mr. Bushido, Wes, and Amuro: Whre the HELL are our suits?! >_<
Me: Wait, i do understand your clamors for your mobile suits to be featured at the least possible time. But try giving the guy a break... And besides, we may possibly get a couple more residents within the next few months or so...

Hobby-No-Toriko creation: HG 1/144 00 Qan[T] Ultimate

Known for his clean kitbashes of HG (and some MG) model kits, Hobby-NoToriko may have gone overboard with his latest project. He christened it as the 00 Qan[T] Full Sword; I call it Setsuna's dream Gundam... XD

Let's check the numbers on this bad boy:

00 Qan[T] unit (with 3 GN drives, Avalanche Exia lower legs, and a head with elements from Astrea, 00, and Qan[T]):

GN Drives (Second-Gen) x3
GN Katars x2
Feet-mounted Beam Sabers x2
GN Blade Bits x12

XN Raiser unit:

GN Drives (First-Gen) x2
GN Buster Sword II x2
GN Buster Sword III x2
GN Sword III x2

The end result:

... absolutely overkill... O_O

Photos: Hobby-No-Toriko

Mr. Bushido: Looks fine and dandy to me... now WHERE THE HECK'S MY MASURAO'S INTRODUCTION?!
Wes: The masked Gaijin has a point; Hrairoo's itching to flaunt its Hrududu II system now, come on!
Amuro: Yeah! And when will you commence repairs for my Gundam, huh?!
Me: Uh... O_O

Linkin Park's 'A Thousand Suns': The FULL Album Review... sort of...

Tagged from HollywoodNews.com
*Life rant...

Nearly had to ponder on this one: I was quite short on funds when the album was released, and I still need to catch a bus ride home. Inevitably I picked the latter, and then went back this week to purchase the thing... all before my final examinations... XD

So before I withdraw for the end-of-semester crunchtime, I figured I finish this review.

P.S. the review for HG Masurao may come a few days after my Final exams; expect a few Bushido-Gaijin tendencies... XD

MG Deathscythe... Hell?

Had my usual surfing session minutes ago, then I came across a Facebook photo from one of the Gundam fan sites. I thought it was just photoshopped, or maybe an older kit; but lo and behold...

The modeller really wanted to make a statement to Bandai for the MG Deathscythe Hell, so he built this as a 'show of force'. Kudos to the guy for pushing the envelope...

HG 1/144 Seravee Gundam GNHW/B Review (NK Tribute Pt.1)

* Box Pic From 1999.co.jp
*Life Rant...

I'm still trying to help my brothers and sisters to recover from what had just happened last 9/26, despite the fact that Law School activities have resumed, and the schedule for my Final Examination stays the same. And then I heard of Ngee Khiong shutting down his blog, which was quite surprising and sad at the same time.

Truth be told, it was through him that I fueled part of my enthusiasm for Gunpla, particularly when the RG RX-78-2 was announced (sadly its review will have to be delayed until further notice due to parts issues... '^^). Then again, when I read his last two posts, maybe he was on the right for doing so.

My take on this: if people do or do not want certain kinds of Gundams (especially when they get the Master Grade or Perfect Grade treatment), they are quite entitled to opinion, but they should be warned that their opinion, much like morals, may or may not be offensive to others. To all the haters, tread carefully when you make your point; we all have our faves and interest, at least give the rest the benefit of the doubt...

I may not have any fitting tribute for the man behind the majority of gunpla news that I receive, but I can at least dedicate this review, (and soon the RG RX-78's) to him. Thanks, NK...

Insight: The 2010 Bar Exam Mishap

I could not help but quiver at the carnage...

I was back at my home province, celebrating with my family for my youngest sister's 7th birthday. That night however, I was shocked when I saw the news about the bombings near De La Salle University during the final week of the 2010 Bar Examinations.

At first I thought it was just some stray fireworks that some of the fraternity well-wishers intended to use to celebrate the achievements of their brother-barristers. I was however in for a VERY rude awakening.

The next day, unaware of what has transpired, I arrived at my apartment in Manila and got a more gruesome view of the scenario: some of my fraternity brothers and sisters were primarily the victims of the mishap. According to the reports, someone wearing a jacket, who was identified as a member of another fraternity was seen throwing a grenade at the crowd. The resulting numbers were just mind-boggling: an estimate of 44 people injured, 9 of them from our fraternity and our partner sorority; 4 of them seriously injured, including two sisters with their legs amputated.

A few hours after this blog I intend on visiting some of the victims, who were not just my erstwhile fraternity brothers and sorority sisters, but also close friends. Further blog posts will just have to be put on hold until I can finally hold my peace of mind together. I urge all those who would chance upon this post to pray for the victims.

I just hope and pray that justice be served upon those people responsible...

"God bless us everyone
We are broken people living under loaded gun
And we can't be outfought
We can't be outdone
We can't be outmatched
We can't be outrun..."

Gundam 00 Model Kit & Site Updates...

Just had my leisurely surf through Ngee Khiong a few hours ago and came across unexpected releases from Bandai:

Quick Update: LP+Gunpla and WoW+Gunpla

Still haven't found the new Linkin Park Album at nearby record bars, but before I could acquire it (and thus starting the review), they dropped a bigger bombshell... with help from Sunrise and Bandai:

Well, the art's not quite the real bombshell. It's the Gundam behind it, and here's the scoop: Bandai, in cooperation with LP will release a special edition of the HGUC RX-78GP01fb Full Vernian Zephyrantes, clad up in custom LP colors. Do bear in mind that this same Gundam (possibly in Master grade form) was also seen in the set of their Meteora-era song, Somewhere I Belong, where it also shared the spotlight with Sazabi and Wing Zero.

I know the white-over-matte-gray color scheme may be a bit too bland for the suit... But still, I'm quite digging the album cover-inspired shield design; it's as if it got hit by one of the GP02A Physalis' nuke warheads... only to survive with a mere scratch...

On another note...

If Gundams existed in the Warcraft metaverse, I figured this is what Ilidan "Terrorblade" Stormrage would pilot... with the G-Gundam style cockpit... XD

Album Preview: Linkin Park's 'A Thousand Suns'

Album Cover tagged from WikiMedia

Just before I do a couple more Gunpla reviews, I figured that I post something different. Because a lot has been happening everywhere, particularly in the music scene. New artists popping out like mushrooms with their catchy, LSS-inducing tracks and what not.

Then there are those 'experienced' ones - the artists who try to: one, create new media by reusing their old formula; or two, reinvent their musical identities altogether.

In the case of Linkin Park, particularly with their upcoming album A Thousand Suns however, I'm quite confused: they claim to be going back to their roots for this one, but they also plan on making on making a new niche for themselves. Uh... What really is true here?

HG 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam

*Life rant...

Well, with the midterm season already over, I thought it's about time to fix the backlog of overdue reviews ('^^) I promised a second review two weeks ago, but a lot of tasks and preparations had to be done first...

HG 1/144 Wing Gundam Zero (OVA Ver.) - Re-Post

(Taken from 1999.co.jp)

Hi! Just as promised, I'll be presenting one of the two retrospective Gunpla reviews before midterm season. We'll start off with this: The 1/144 Wing Gundam Zero, as seen from the Endless Waltz OVA.

I was quite a fan of this suit that when I saw this while scouring for other gifts at an annual Christmas Bazaar last year, I immediately bought the bad boy. Trust me when I say these two things: first, I came to know of the Gundam franchise through Wing; and second, I've been absolutely mesmerized by those angel wings... :3

Anyway, a few days before Christmas, I opted for a straight build (being only an absolute n00b back then) using whatever was packed with the box. It was also then when I scoured the web for the movie version of the OVA where, although getting limited screen time than the other suits, it fired three shots from its iconic Twin Buster Rifle and went out in a blaze of glory.

Now, on to the model kit itself...

Wing Gundam Zero Review up...

Finally, done with the debut review for this blog: the HG 1/144 Wing Gundam Zero (OVA ver.)

You can now view it here...

In the meantime, must study more while preparing the next one...

Second post: Midterms, Cataclysm, and new Acquisitions...

Hey there!

Right now, my schedule for the first two weeks of August is full: Midterm season (Law School Style) on the second week, prompting me to prep up for the impending battle. I still have to serve up as a semi-maid in my apartment (being the only capable man available there... T_T), and I have not even set up my debut essay, along with the first batch of Gunpla reviews (retrospective ones...)

Rest assured that maybe by the end of this week, I can put up at least one or two short reviews. (5 are still waiting to be posted, yet I'm also planning to purchase another one by the end of Midterm Season...)

I'll be seeing you guys maybe a few days later for the first one, then next week for another...

P.S. here's a little preview of who's going first...

Blog is now online...

The day was July 21, 2010...

It was the day when, out of boredom, one man decided to "socialize" by creating a blog that would manifest his passion for the principles of Law, the reality of Life, and with a little bit of Gunpla...

It was the day... when Celestial Preventer has finally made first contact with the online world...
